As Peterborough real estate agents, we constantly obsess over the latest statistics and trends in the local housing market to help people buy and sell homes. It’s not just a job, it’s actually one of our all-time favourite hobbies – that is, when we’re not out and about enjoying life in our favourite city.
It turns out, we are equally passionate about all the fun things to do in Peterborough. This includes all of the activities available on a daily basis, as well as the seasonal festivities throughout the year. There are too many to name. However, in this post, we’ll highlight a few of our top local events in Peterborough, Ontario.

Peterborough Petes Games
Here in Peterborough, we never get too distressed when summer comes to an end – because that just kicks off the best time of year. We’re talking about hockey season, of course. Fall and winter deliver multiple opportunities to cheer on our local team, the Peterborough Petes, as they battle it out for the Ontario Hockey League Championship at the Peterborough Memorial Centre!
Even if you’re not a hockey enthusiast, you can’t help but get caught up in the energy of the game, especially when they score yet another goal. Pretty soon, you’ll be chanting “Ehhh Ohhh PTBO” with the rest of us! Fun fact: A fan once wrote the Peterborough Petes Rally Song, and The North Coast Band actually recorded it for the 2019 Playoffs.

Hutchison House Christmas Market
The beginning of winter marks the season for home-baked goods and other delicious treats! At the Hutchison House Christmas Market, volunteers showcase an endless array of shortbread, pies, jams, cheese and seasonal goodies. Once your sweet tooth is fully satisfied, you can move on to browse the festive decorative boughs.

Peterborough Snofest
Warm your heart while embracing the winter spirit through a series of free and low-cost activities. Peterborough Snofest happens over the Family Day long weekend in February, and you can participate by skating, playing drop-in sports, or through various arts and crafts.
The Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre often offers a free family swim night, as well. Of course, all this exercise may cause you to work up an appetite, which you can then satisfy at the Mayor’s Pancake Breakfast.
Peterborough Poutine Feast
Spring is a time for renewal, beauty, and – er, poutine? You read that right. The Peterborough Poutine Feast is one of our most beloved traditions, which coincides with the arrival of the warmer weather.
So put away your coat and winter boots, and head on over to Morrow Park to explore some truly revolutionary takes on this Canadian classic dish.
Peterborough Regional Farmers’ Market
Although the Peterborough Regional Farmers’ Market runs all year, the outdoor event kicks off in May in Quaker Foods Park. That makes it one of the top spring festivities to look forward to each year, with a ton of fresh produce, prepared foods, and other artisan products you can only find through local vendors.
Dazzle your taste buds, delight your senses, and support local, all with one of Peterborough’s finest traditions.
Peterborough Musicfest
Music roars to life as spring turns into summer. Peterborough Musicfest is Canada’s longest-running free concert series, and there are few better ways to enjoy a warm afternoon.
Great beats, incredible food, and even better friends is truly an unbeatable combination. Even the location is stunning and beautiful, in Del Crary Park right next to the shores of Little Lake.
The festival typically starts around Canada Day and runs for approximately 8 weeks. Metric, Carly Rae Jepsen, Tegan and Sara, Big Wreck, The Trews, and Sloan are just a few artists who have performed in the past. Whenever you have a chance to attend, it will definitely be a day to remember.
Lock & Paddle
Peterborough is a stunning waterfront city, so it’s no wonder that many of our events revolve around the Otonabee River or Little Lake. In this well-known tradition, canoeists and kayakers paddle away at the Peterborough Lift Lock, the world’s highest hydraulic lift lock. It’s already an iconic Peterborough attraction at any time; the sight of hundreds of boaters makes it even more so!

Head of the Trent Regatta
In Peterborough, our love of the waterfront does not fade as summer ends. In fact, the autumn Head of the Trent Regatta is one of the largest, single-day rowing regattas anywhere in North America. During this event, university and club rowers head to the Otonabee River for a heated, five-kilometre race. It’s not just the boaters who get involved, however. Spectators can also enjoy live entertainment and family-friendly activities as they cheer on their favourite contestants.
There are so many great activities to look forward to, and this is just a small sample of what you can expect. It’s not just the annual celebrations we look forward to every year – there are also plenty of one-offs to keep you and your family busy and engaged.
