Fun Holiday Activities In Peterborough This Year

In stark contrast to the pandemic-induced lockdowns of last year, Peterborough’s governing bodies aren’t only permitting but encouraging our local residents to come together and celebrate the holiday season as a community this year.

Although we’ve enjoyed our (rather slow) reintroduction to social gatherings and community events this year, this is the first time in a long time Peterborough locals will be able to celebrate some of our most treasured holiday-themed events together.

So, whether you plan to spend time with family, friends, or loved ones this holiday season, make sure you make the most of it while you can and consider attending and or all of these fun holiday activities in Peterborough this year.

Peterborough’s very own historic Hutchison House Museum at 270 Brock Street will play host to the location’s highly-anticipated annual Christmas Market from Saturday, November 27 to Sunday, November 28 this winter.

A true Peterborough family favourite, the annual Christmas Market put on by the Hutchison House Museum volunteers group is a festive event for all to earmark ahead of the holiday season. Go On A Butter Tart Tour

While the Peterborough area’s famous Butter Tart scene is always operating at full capacity throughout the year, there’s something even more special about enjoying these famous local confectionaries around the holidays.

Across Peterborough City, County and the Kawartha Lakes region is where some of the province’s — and perhaps the country’s — very best Butter Tarts are made, so it’s only natural that Butter Tart Tours are quite a popular pastime here, especially around the holidays.

With so many amazing Butter Tart makers and bakers here, can be difficult to try to visit them all. But, to help you plan out the best route for your upcoming Butter Tart tasting tour, you can view which bakeries you’d like to stop by on the Butter Tart Tour Map here, or you can see a list of where to find the best Butter Tarts here.

Take A Horse-Drawn Sleigh Ride

What could be more festive around the holiday season than taking an authentic horse-drawn sleigh ride? Luckily for us Peterborough locals, we can embrace that classic holiday tradition at Merrylynd Organics Farm in Douro, just northeast of downtown Peterborough.

Since the agricultural land at the Merrylynd Organics Farm site was first settled upon back in 1825, Horse-drawn sleigh rides have been a local tradition that has clearly long continued. And not much appears to have changed over the course of nearly 200 years, as the sleighs and carriages all look remarkably like they did several centuries ago.

To book your horse-drawn sleigh ride ahead of the holidays this year, contact Merrylynd Organics Farm via phone at 705.750.5837 or email them at merrylynd@nexicom.net — just don’t wait too long or all the rides will be reserved!
