It’s hard to find anywhere more conveniently located than Peterborough. Its position in southeastern Ontario makes it easy to get to from anywhere. The distance from Toronto to Peterborough is approximately 125 km, which means you can get there in approximately 90 minutes by car. You can also reach Barrie in under two hours – depending on traffic. Nestled between Highway 115, Highway 7, and Highway 28, Peterborough is well-connected and commuter-friendly.

Peterborough is just as convenient for those who don’t drive. It boasts an efficient public transit system, with regular and express buses, an accessible van service, and a community bus for everyday errands. The Go Bus runs from Peterborough to Union Station in Toronto and to Oshawa, which also makes it easy to travel in all directions.

Peterborough has earned the nickname, The Electric City, thanks to its pivotal role in hydroelectric power generation. It was also one of the first cities in North America to use electric streetlights. Enough about history; let’s talk about fun.

Those who live here are often astounded by all of the unique places to visit in Peterborough and the long list of exciting recreational activities. Riverview Park and Zoo immediately comes to mind – it’s the only free accredited zoo in Canada.

The Trent-Severn Waterway is a national historic landmark, with stunning scenery and easy access to the shops and restaurants in the downtown core. This 386 km waterway first opened in 1922 and traversed from Lake Ontario all the way to Georgian Bay. At 65 feet high, Lift Lock 21 also has the honour of being the tallest of its kind in the world!
